Gift Cards

Overview

Gift cards allow your customers to purchase a gift card, share it with others, or keep the code for later use. Once purchased, gift cards can be redeemed for store credit on your shop.

How Gift Cards Work

Code Generation and Activation

When a customer orders a gift card, a unique gift card code is generated once the order status changes to either:

  • Completed
  • Processing

Upon detecting either of these two statuses, the gift card is marked as Active and an email containing the gift card code is sent to the customer. The gift card code follows the format VEXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

Redemption

Gift cards can only be redeemed by registered users in order to track their balance. After receiving the gift card code, customers can redeem it through the Gift Cards section:

  • For registered users: Navigate to My Account > My Gift Cards to redeem the code.

Once redeemed, the full balance of the gift card (e.g., $50) is applied to the user’s account. If the user redeems multiple gift cards, the balances are added together, and the total is available for use.

Payment at Checkout

When the customer proceeds to the checkout page, the system will check for any unused gift card balance. If a balance exists, a new payment method called Pay by GiftCard (Balance: n) will be displayed, where "n" is the available balance that can be applied to the order.

Admin Section

Overview Tab

In the Overview Tab, the following key metrics are displayed:

  • Total Gift Cards: Total number of gift cards created, including inactive and unpaid ones.
  • Purchased Gift Cards: Number of gift cards that have been purchased and paid for.
  • Balance in Gift Cards: The total remaining balance across all active and paid gift cards that have not been fully redeemed.

Edit Gift Cards Tab

In the Edit Gift Cards tab, you can:

  • Create New Gift Cards: You can design gift cards with a "bank-card" style template and choose themes or images based on different occasions (e.g., Christmas, birthdays).
  • Edit Existing Gift Cards: Modify details for active or inactive gift cards.

Fields for Creating or Editing Gift Cards:

  • Card Name: Name of the gift card.
  • Card Theme Image: Upload a visual representation for the card.
  • Card Type: Choose between:
    • Open Type: The customer can choose any amount for the gift card.
    • Closed Type: Predefined amounts that the gift card can be purchased for (e.g., $25, $50, $100).
  • Physical Gift Card Option: Enabling this option will require the customer to provide a shipping address. A physical gift card will be sent to the address provided, along with the gift card code.
  • Expires After: Define the expiration period for the gift card in months. After the set period, the card becomes invalid, and any remaining balance cannot be spent.

Bought Gift Cards Tab

In the Bought Gift Cards tab, you can see which customers have purchased which gift cards, allowing you to track purchases.

Settings Tab

In the Settings Tab, you can configure the terms of use for the gift cards. Customers will be required to read and agree to these terms before purchasing or redeeming a gift card.

Additional Information

  • Gift cards offer flexibility and convenience for both the customer and the business.
  • All gift card transactions are fully trackable, and users must be registered to redeem gift cards and track balances.
  • Physical gift cards are a great option for customers looking for a tangible, mailed gift card experience.
